Hamilton Artists’ Inc. (HAI) is an artist-run centre committed to the presentation, dissemination and advocacy of Canadian contemporary visual arts. Their mandate is to serve the Hamilton community by enhancing Hamilton’s regional cultural activity and celebrating the community’s diversity and artistic talent.
This inspiring organization has served over 10,000 people in the Hamilton area through programs for children, artists and community members. Sixty percent of their clientele are low income.
HAI required a loan in order to complete a building project that would both contribute significantly to downtown revitalization and support a burgeoning arts scene. This new space would allow HAI to expand their programs and increase the ability of artists to earn a living from their art.
The Community Forward Fund Assistance Corp.(CFFAC) and Hamilton Community Foundation (HCF) had recently announced their unique partnership, bringing together the CFF’s innovative approach to providing loans to nonprofits and charities with HCF’s resources and in-depth knowledge of the Hamilton community.
HAI was the first recipient of a loan through this innovative program. Thanks to the loan provided through this partnership, Hamilton Artists Inc. was able to purchase the new building, expand their operations, sell their old building, and then quickly repay their loan in full.
